About this book
IBALEN
Finally, I have reached Earth! I will slay the weak males and claim their fertile women. I shall usher in a new golden age and lead my Kaizon brothers to total domination! But first, I will father a thousand sons...
That's my plan. Until I see her. A human female, so small and weak compared to my raw, brute strength... and yet, merely looking at her makes my two hearts race. And her scent! It drives me absolutely wild!
I must know her name. I must know everything about her. I must have her. She must be mine.
EILEEN
My mission was an easy one: Go to the caves and find a crystal. Being abducted by a rogue, dominant, drop-dead gorgeous Kaizon warrior hellbent on taking over Earth was definitely not part of the plan.
Yet I find myself abducted by the hottest, tallest alien I've ever seen all the same. His brooding look tells me he's up to no good, and despite his savage nature... my stomach flutters.
I must escape -- or I will lose my heart to this brute.
BRUTE is the fifth book in the steamy Sci-Fi Romance series Warriors of Kaizon, by Luna Hunter. Each book follows a different couple and can be read as a standalone. No cheating, HEA guaranteed!
Chapter 1
EILEEN
“This must be the place.”
The dark cave looms in front of us ominously. Cold wind rushes out, making my skin crawl.
“Are you sure?” Belinda asks. “Can’t we try a different one? This one looks rather… creepy.”
“No,” I say briskly as I light up the torch that Surlok made for us. The rocks cast shadows on the walls, and I’m sure I just saw a few bugs scatter away. Hopefully it’s just the shadows playing tricks on my eyes.
“We have a duty to our friends; this is the cave that was assigned to us. The sooner we get this over with, the sooner we can go back home.”
“I hate caves,” Belinda says. “Always have, always will. Why doesn’t the damn crystal grow on trees or something?”
“That would make life a whole lot easier, wouldn’t it?” I chuckle. “Do you want to go first?”
“Stars, no, you go on ahead,” Belinda says, shaking her head vigorously.
I take a deep breath and head into the darkness, carrying nothing but my torch. I’m honestly just as scared as Belinda, but I try not to show it. We have to stay strong for our friends. Surlok needs a crystal to power his teleportation device. With it, he can open up a portal to his homeworld. I can’t even begin to understand how that works, but I guess that’s why he’s the genius of our group of survivors and warriors.
If we can reach Kysus, the Kaizon homeworld, we can begin fighting back against all the raiders and slavers that have turned Earth into a hellhole for women everywhere. The Kaizon are a race of formidable warriors, tall muscled giants with horns and claws that’ll cut through anything. With them on our side, the raiders don’t stand a chance.
We all split into different groups in search of this mysterious crystal. I partnered up with Belinda, as she’s one of my closest friends.
“What do you see?” Belinda calls out.
“Mostly rocks,” I call back.
“Ha ha. Very funny.”
“It’s not a joke, though. The path splits up… where did Dev say she found the crystal again? I hope it’s not a mile down… what was she doing crawling around in dark caves anyway?”
“I don’t know. Trying to get away from all the couples, I suppose?”
“Right. I get that.”
Five Kaizon warriors have reached Earth so far — and it seems that the tall warriors have a taste for human women.
An insatiable craving is a more apt description, in fact. Once they’ve found their ‘true mate’ as they call it, they will walk through fire for that person. They are incredibly devoted and fiercely loyal.
Four of my friends have found their connection with the warriors so far: Jade and Vukaror, Makayla and Kerax, Joan and Surlok and of course Dev and Febakur. And the fifth couple is on its way, because Zoey and Drarsan got paired up to explore a cave together. Dev made sure of that.
It was love at first sight for the Kaizon. They claim to know their ‘one’ right away. I know some of my friends needed a little convincing before allowing such a tall, intimidating and menacing alien into their hearts (and pants).
As happy as I am for my friends, being around all these couples that are deeply in love can be a bit grating. There’s only so many times you can walk in on someone making out when it stops being cute and starts being a nuisance.
Or worse: Make you feel incredibly lonely.
That’s the stage where I’m at right now. I’m honestly not sure if I’m looking forward to, or dreading, the moment when a Kaizon warrior arrives to claim me as his eternal bride.
On one hand: Hey, you get a gorgeous alien protector, lover and confidant. A man who will keep you safe no matter what. And that’s important in this lawless world, filled with slavers who’d love to pawn me off to the highest bidder.
But on the other hand… it means having a possessive, dominant man around. Who might object to my late-night hikes, or my tendency to climb up trees and enjoy the view. If his goal was to keep me safe, then he might just lock me up.
All my life I’ve fought for my freedom. I’m not about to surrender all of that to some alien!
Even if Joan keeps telling me the orgasms are mind-blowing. Thanks, Joan, didn’t really need to know that, but thank you for the mental image anyway.
I don’t know why I’m so worried though; Kysus is lightyears away, and if we don’t find a crystal, then there’s no portal; no aliens; no future husbands; no problem to worry about.
“Can we turn back now?” Belinda says, her voice echoing down the winding corridors. “I think I’ve seen enough. My head still hurts from that damn computer.”
“Same here, but we can speak Kaizon now. How cool is that? We mastered an alien language, all because a computer beamed the knowledge into our brain!”
Surlok, who is an absolute genius, managed to repair Kerax’s ship, and his on-board computer. That same computer has the capability to teach us their strange, alien language. All eight of us girls learned Kaizon, so now the men can’t talk about us behind our backs anymore. I’m not sure they ever actually did that, but either way, they can’t anymore!
“Come on. You’ve got to admit that’s pretty damn neat,” I say.
“Yeah, well, so far all it has given me is a pounding headache, and there are no aliens here to speak to anyway.”
A shiver runs down my spine. I certainly hope not.
“I want to go back. There’s nothing in t
his cave,” Belinda says. She sighs deeply and sits down on a rock, her puppy eyes pleading for me to stop. “Also, isn’t it time for lunch?”
“We just had lunch.”
“I meant second lunch.”
“Let’s just go a little further,” I say. “I want to be really thorough.”
Chapter 2
IBALEN
I am here! I made it!
Earth.
Such a strange location. So alien!
My feet rest on grass, instead of hot sand and hard rock. All I see are trees, as far as the eyes can see, an ocean of green. It obscures my view, makes finding and hunting my prey difficult.
And the smell…
The smell is the worst of all.
Flowers.
So sweet, so poignant, so utterly disgusting. I find myself sneezing a dozen times over, my agitation growing with every single sneeze.
When this world bows at my feet, there will be no more flowers. I will have them all cut down and burnt to a crisp. It’s not a matter of if, but when.
I have seen the human females. They are weak, pitiful beings. Where is their armor?! They even lack horns and claws to defend themselves. I suspect the males are quite similar; they will be no match for my brute, raw strength.
No, the only real threat I face are the royal princes. Febakur, Surlok, the whole lot of them.
Kaizon warriors, just like myself, but the comparison stops there. I’m not a royal. I wasn’t born with a silver spoon in my mouth. I wasn’t destined for greatness. All that I have in this world, I have earned. All the while, those royals have let our society descend into chaos and madness.
The Sickness ravaged our people, but did they stop it? No. Instead, they found this world, Earth, a place filled with fertile women! But did they think to share that secret with the rest of our dying people?!
No. They kept this world to themselves, just like they’ve always hoarded every resource imaginable.
That’s all going to change now. I am here. I have used Surlok’s portal, I have reached this fertile world, and I will make it mine — and open the way for my Kaizon brothers! I will father a hundred children, and under my rule, the Kaizon will reach a new golden age!
But first, I must find them. And all these damn trees stop me from scanning the horizon, and all these sickly sweet flowers stop me from smelling their tracks. I have walked around these damn woods for many rotations of this planet’s central star, without a human or Kaizon in sight!
My agitation is growing by the second.
A wonderful whiff suddenly stops me dead in my tracks.
That scent…
It’s breathtaking.
My two hearts quicken as I race towards the origin of that heavenly scent. My pulse quickens when I see them.
Humans!
Two human females.
They are standing at the mouth of a cave, and my eyes are drawn to the one wielding a torch.
Her body is small but curvy. I cannot tear my eyes away from her perfect form, and her graceful walk makes my blood rush down to my quad.
Such a scent, coming from a mere human?!
Impossible.
And yet, my nose does not deceive me. That female… she is special.
They head into the dark cave, and I rest my back against a tree. The wanton thoughts of what I’m going to do that human fills my mind, and my pulse races. I cannot help but squeeze the bulge in my armor, as I imagine how good tasting that female will feel.
My wild dreams are rudely interrupted by the snapping of a twig. A few human males appear in the distance, following the females closely.
The men are as small and insignificant as I imagined. They barely reach up to my torso, and they carry weaponry, for their fists are puny. Cowards. The hungry looks on their faces leave no doubt in my mind. These men have bad intentions.
Unfortunately for them, those are my females.
And I will defend them to my very last breath.
Chapter 3
EILEEN
“Can we turn back now?” Belinda asks, her voice shaking. “I’m starting to get the heebie-jeebies. I’m hearing voices.”
“Don’t be silly,” I say. “That’s just the echo. There’s no one else here.”
“Are you sure about that, love?”
A venomous snarl makes my heart jump into my throat. I wheel around and hold my torch up, illuminating the gaunt, unkempt faces of a group of men.
The weapons they’re pointing right at us answer all of the questions I have. These are raiders.
And we’re in deep shit.
“Thank you for cornering yourselves,” the man says. He spits on the floor and grins at me. He’s missing half of his teeth. “Normally they run, but you can’t really run now, can’t you?”
“No, but I can do this!”
I throw the flaming torch directly at his face, and it hits him square in the jaw. He stumbles back, screaming and cursing as he reaches for his gun.
I grab Belinda’s hand and quickly pull her down to the cave floor. Enraged, the men fire off a salvo of rounds into the air blindly. The bullets bounce off the walls, bits of rock tumbling down on our heads as we crawl towards the exit.
“Stop it, you idiots! They’re no good to us dead! Cease fire! Where the fuck did they go?!”
I keep crawling. That’s all I can do. In the distance, the light beckons. Only a few more feet to go, and then we’re—ugh!
“Going somewhere?”
I’m stomped right between my shoulder blades, my breasts squished against the hard stone. The cold nuzzle of the rifle touches the back of my neck, and the familiar sensation of fear trickles down my spine.
There’s no crawling out of this mess.
“You’re going to fetch me a hefty sum,” the man snarls. “Turn around so I can take a proper look at that cute little face of yours.”
“Make me,” I spit.
“If you insist.”
He kicks me hard in the ribs, and I can’t help but roll over, coughing and wheezing. I think that bastard just broke something.
The man leans down close, placing his knife at my throat. From the corner of my eye, I can see the other men hunched over Belinda, who is in much the same predicament as I am.
My stomach grows cold as the severity of our situation sets in.
“You’re even prettier than I had hoped,” the man snarls, his foul breath making me wince. “I think the wares ought to be sampled, don’t you agree?” He traces the blade down to my chest, the madness in his eyes growing with the second. “Feel free to scream. I love it when they do.”
With all the strength I can muster, I knee him right between the legs. The man doubles over, screaming in pain, as I grasp the knife from his hand. In one quick movement I jam it into his neck, warm blood gushing out, and he stumbles back, groaning in pain.
“Feel free to scream, you bastard,” I say as I plunge the knife into him again. “I love it when they do.”
He falls over with a look of sheer astonishment on his face. He thought me helpless — he was dead wrong.
“What the fuck?!” The other raiders stand up in shock, their rifles pointed straight at me. “You better drop that knife right now, bitch!”
“Let my friend go,” I say. “You can take me, but let her go.”
The man shakes his head and raises his rifle, looking at me through his sight. “No, you’re too much trouble. How about I blow your brains out and just take her? One girl ain’t a bad haul. Plus you took out Dimitri, that’s one less share of the pot. I like those numbers.”
Shit.
I knew this was a desperate gamble.
I kinda hoped it was going to pay off, though. Guess not. At least I managed to take one of them down with me.
I close my eyes and await my fate… and then it happens.
A deep, low roar makes the cave itself shake, and my eardrums pop. My eyes fly open, just in time to see a dark figure flash by.
Screams and groans ech
o through the cave. My blood runs cold as I try to see what is going on, but the mysterious figure is moving too fast. It’s so dark in here that it’s hard to see anything.
Guns are fired. In the muzzle flash, I catch glimpses of horns. And claws, dripping with blood.
A Kaizon! We’re saved!
Relief floods through my veins.
Who can it be, though? Vuka is with Jade, back at the cabin, and Kerax, Surlok, Febakur and Drarsan are all out with their mates…
The figure stops suddenly, his massive chest heaving up and down with heavy breaths. The raiders, or what’s left of them, lay down at his feet, in a pool of blood. The only source of light is coming from my torch down on the floor, casting large, intimidating shadows behind this giant man, making him appear even larger.
My eyes are drawn to his horns. They are different from all that I’ve seen before, a unique shape and form, which means… he’s not one of our Kaizon.
Belinda has crawled over to me, and I help her up to her feet. She clings to me, hiding behind my small frame.
“Are you okay?” I ask her.
She nods. “Who is that?!”
“I don’t know,” I answer. From the fear in her eyes, I can tell she doesn’t like that answer.
“Are you… brother?” I ask the warrior in my rudimentary Kaizon. My grasp of their language is still poor at best, but I know enough to get by — I hope. The sensation of Kerax’s computer injecting all of that knowledge straight into my brain is not one easily forgotten. I had a headache for a week straight. Hopefully, all that pain will prove worthwhile.
The warrior lifts his head up in surprise. “You speak… my father’s tongue?”
